Of all the cracking lacking music released in 2011 there have been 2 that have made Inde heads salivate. We at Gem decided to Introduce you to the 2 albums making huge waves in the inde world this year and invite you to take a listen.

Arctic monkeys- suck it and see

The best inde album released in 2011, thus far, by some distance. After their first two albums raked in numerous awards, the Sheffield boys seemed to shed some innocence (and a few fans) with a darker 3rd album but they are back to form with their fourth offering, suck it and see.

The music is back to its infectious best with tales of life and love from the master pen of Alex Turner, the man NME describes as "the scribe of a generation" The hooks, riffs and beats will take you on an emotions and adrenaline filled rollercoaster, but don’t take my word for it suck it and see.

Best: It seems to change daily but right now the dramatic conclusion to Reckless Serenade is Kickin butt.

Worst: Not worse more of a grower, All my own stunts, Its still a shockingly awesome track but the darker tone(thanks to Josh Homme) takes a tad more getting used to.

Fans Fav: Don's sit down cause i've moved your chair. The first single off teh album reclaimed the airwaves previously dominated by Arctic Monkey tunes and made the world beat to Turners drum once more.

Arcade fire- The Suburbs

Although not strictly a 2011 release its effects are still felt deep into 2011 both in their fans minds and on radio airwaves. The Canadian bands third release has been so stellar that it has earned them a Grammy, a Brit, a NME and a Juno Award for album of the year. An interesting element of the album is that the album does exactly what the title suggests: it takes you away from the neighbourhoods and funerals of their first offering, away from the opinions of state and religion offered in their sophomore Neon Bible and back to the suburbs, back to where your most comfortable, back to where you can be yourself, back to being your best. The album does Part of what makes this album memorable, and something I’ve never experienced before, is that once you’ve listened to the album it makes their other, previous material more appealing and interesting. Perhaps like an old man reflecting on a life (so far) well lived, you only realise how sweet your past was with the gift of hindsight.

Best: Sprawl II, This track would not feel out at a 80's disco with its poppish and catchy tunes. The underlying theme is reflective and stretches the imagination. The essence of catchy thinking music.

Worst: Rococo, Again a really strong song just slightly out on an album as strong as this.

Fans Fav: The suburbs, It's an unwritten rule that the 1st single of an album has to teh consumer in and here teh Arcade Fire don't disappoint. stellar first single and a great opener for the rest of a memorable album.
