The Barnyard Theatre Boksburg hosted The Rocky Horror Party on 27 May, a spin off from Richard O'Brien's original The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The Barnyard stage accommodated what was needed to fully understand the antics and humour of The Rocky Horror Party. The show, only a slight variation of the original production, added some of its own unique, sexually referenced humour and a whole lot of profanity. This combination of style with the actual plot left the audience in bouts of laughter and enjoyment.

This one night only show was amazingly entertaining. On the spot lines and actions made the show particular to the night. The production explored all levels of sexuality with crude humour and openly sexual deeds, perfect for a mature audience, as the night came at an age restriction of 16.

The audience was also not expected to just take in what was happening on stage, but were also presented the opportunity to get involved in the performance. Sly comments made at the actors, were received humbly and almost instantly a witty comeback was made. The audience also experienced personal interaction with the cast, with men and women alike getting the Dr Frank-N-Furter shoulder massage.

The cast of the production were skilful and appeared to have a natural feel for the music which translated into an almost perfect performance. The male cast can be given some exceptional credit for displaying the ability to comfortably dress in high heels and transvestite attire. The female cast can not be forgotten, as the effortless way they performed sexual moves without hesitation, showed a complete lack of conservative shyness.

The only downfall of the production seemed to be the performance of The Time Warp, which was sung to the original score, but the choreography was different from the original. However good the performance may have been, one cannot help by prefer the steps in the original, the time old classic version of the dance.

An "erotic nightmare beyond any measure" and a "sensual daydream to treasure forever". For more information on The Rocky Horror Picture Show plot and history, go to:
