FIFA Executive speaks out on corruption scandal

Posted by forward thinkerZee on Sunday, November 20, 2011 Under: Football

FIFA president Sepp Blatter revealed that before the month is through there may be a change to the FIFA executive , this after one of the members is said to be in a decade long corruption scandal.

“It does look like some people won’t be able to stay on the executive committee,” Blatter told a German newspaper in an interview published on Sunday. In what is seen as the clearest message of intent by FIFA that disciplinary action may be taken against executive member Ricardo Texeira.

Texeira is heading the Brazillian World Cup organising committee but has been linked to a scandal dating back to the early 2000’s. It is thought that Blatter, who is himself under pressure after comments this week involving racism, can ignore the issue no more and will ask Texeira to join 4 other who have recently been axed from the Football Authorities executive.

In 2010, FIFA said two senior officials repaid kickbacks then worth $5 million on condition of anonymity. It has since blocked the court from releasing documents naming those involved in the payback.  Shortly after the British broadcaster BBC named the officials as Teixeira and his former father-in-law Joao Havelange, the longtime FIFA president who Blatter succeeded in 1998.

Blatter, who has committed to wide-ranging anti-corruption reforms, will publish the ISL dossier on Dec. 17 after his executive committee meets in Tokyo where it will then be decided how the officials will be disciplined.
