Benni McCarthy scored two goals in the second half against
Golden Arrows, to hand Orlando Pirates the 2011/2012 ABSA Premiership title.
Pirates opened the scoring with a goal in the 26th
minute through Captain Lucky Lekgwathi, before Arrows scored two goals in two
minutes to go before Sagweni scored five minutes before half time to go into
the break 2-2. Pirates responded shortly after the restart with a headed goal
from McCarthy after good positioning from the long throw.
McCarthy who spent
his first season back in South Africa, sealed the victory with a late goal in stoppage
time to hand Pirates the victory and the title of best football team in South
Africa.
“The youngsters have kept me on my toes and I’m enjoying my
football, when the ball went into the area everyone knew it was my place and I was
just lucky to score. This title is for the fans” said McCarthy after the match.

When asked about what more Pirates could win after winning back to back trebles, Pirates chairperson Ivan Khoza called on his team to go on and win in Africa and bring the CAF Champions league to Orlando Stadium.
