Springbok squad World Cup 2011 announced

Posted by forward thinkerZee on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 Under: Rugby

Pieter DeVilliers tonight named his squad for the World Cup to be held in New Zealand in just over 17 days time. The squad held no real surprises, except for the exclusion of Lwazi Mvovo in favour of Odwa Ndungani, with 18 members of the squad veterans from the last World Cup winning campaign. As expected Pat Lambie made the cut, as did Morne  Steyn, after injury scare experienced in the immediate aftermath of Saturday’s victory over New Zealand. It was also announced that  John Smit will once again lead the squad and will be assisted by Victor Matfield as Vice-Captain  .The announcement tonight follows the announcement of both the New Zealand and Australian squad’s  in the past few days, now with the big three of World rugby having announced their squad it looks to be both a World Cup of kickers and, with New Zealand earlier announcing their most experienced squad ever prepared for a World Cup with a combined total of over 1000 national caps and Australia announced a squad made up of  no less than 8 players playing in their second consecutive World Cup,  one for the old boys.
